Just prior to Xmas it was my Mum and Dad’s 50th wedding anniversary. Now that’s a much more impressive 50th anniversary than my 50th blogging post that I wrote about recently – and we went somewhere suitably special to celebrate: Skilogalee Winery Restaurant in the Clare Valley.

Pretty revolting weather was forecast in Adelaide for NYE but we decided to press ahead with our planned outdoor soiree regardless, fingers crossed that once the sun dropped so would the wind. However, as luck would have it a cool change kicked in way earlier than expected and we ended up with a perfect balmy evening.

I realised the other day that I reached my 50th post two posts ago (well three if you count this one). What made me realise it was being honoured by being included in Laws of the Kitchen‘s list of blogs to whom she chose to pass on the ‘One Lovely Blog’ award. Thanks very much Cakelaw! It means a lot to know that others enjoy reading my blog  – especially when I’m quite new to the game.

It was a bit last minute as we weren’t going to have a party for Lola’s 3rd birthday due to kitchen renovations taking over our house and lives at the moment. However I had mother guilt at 4 in the morning just before her birthday so I hastily invited the extended family over for cake and bubbles in the afternoon of the Monday public holiday.

It has taken us a couple of years to get to this celebration. I have the great fortune to work in a field that matters to me with a colleague (Sally) who is one of the most intelligent, tenacious, and visionary women I’ve ever met and, not incidentally, we have a great boss. I also work 3 days a week so I can spend the other days with my 3-year-old daughter. Sounds like work nirvana to get all of those elements at once right? Well it is and I know it’s rare so I’m enjoying it while it lasts.

Did you have homemade play-dough when you were little? I can’t remember if I did nor not but I remember making ‘pies’ and other delights, with all manner of found ingredients cooked up in a bucket in the back garden, offered to my stuffed toys, the dog, my next door neighbours and occasionally to my siblings or parents.
