This post is a shamelessly stolen idea from Lambs Ears and Honey blog this week because I love doing lists of stuff where I am required to agonisingly choose just a few things from a much larger list, like the one where you have to choose 5 foods you would take with you to a desert island. Posting up a  5-only-cookbook-wish-list is like throwing down the gauntlet!

I must post about the sublime, succulent, chickeny goodness that is my Polish friend Kasia’s roast chook. She is a great cook and does lots of exotic cooking and fabulous feasts but IMO her signature dish is her roast chicken. I don’t ever bother to do roast chook because when I really feel the need I pester her until she does this one for me (aren’t I lucky?).

I couldn’t think what to make  for dinner one night (feeling a bit bereft without my cookbooks) and so while out on a rainforest walk to a waterfall with L in a backpack on her Daddy’s back I resorted to asking my 2 year old for her opinion. L gave it some consideration and then suggested ‘soup’ which was actually quite a perfect suggestion on a rather wintery day.

View from Church House Porch - Bruny Island

We returned last week from 11 days in Tasmania. Four adults, two toddlers – and big appetites! We spent the time in and around the Hobart region including three nights on Bruny Island in a converted church (where we wished we’d arranged to spend longer – I’m sure this is a repeated tale of most visitors to the island).
