Pretty revolting weather was forecast in Adelaide for NYE but we decided to press ahead with our planned outdoor soiree regardless, fingers crossed that once the sun dropped so would the wind. However, as luck would have it a cool change kicked in way earlier than expected and we ended up with a perfect balmy evening.

I’m so lucky! Can you believe that in the same weekend that we were treated with so many delectable goodies at Lucy’s I was also spoiled rotten by another fabulous friend? Middle Eastern cooking is obviously the cuisine of the moment as we all seem to be so taken with cooking, eating and reading about it!

I’ve been dying to do this post – waiting until I’d had all three dishes before I could reveal to the world this neat little idea. A couple of weeks ago I came across a recipe to cook up a stack of lamb shanks which I then made into three different meals. I really liked the idea and it was a great success.

I feel some trepidation putting up this post I mean, what am I thinking posting on a diet in a food blog dedicated to the love of food? Cooking magazines can be a delightful little foodie indulgence (and not so little depending on the level of your addiction). I only actually subscribe to one magazine (Delicious) but I can’t resist buying editions of various others. Since starting this blog a few months ago I realise I do make pretty good use of my subscription, the arrival of which always creates a little thrill of excitement. The winter months seem to produce the best editions IMO. My June and July copies are liberally dog-eared and I’ve been cooking from them quite a bit and snapping photos from the best I’ve tried. So I thought I’d do a Delicious Roundup of dishes good enough to make again.

Jamie Olivers spicy slow cooked lamb shanks

I’ve stocked up on lamb shanks. Last week I made lamb shank and barely soup and I’m planning on a lamb shank dish from Saha (Beyran Soup – slow cooked lamb soup with garlic and green chillies). Tonight I made Jamie Oliver’s Spiced Slow Cooked Lamb Shanks. I’ve made them before (several times) and I’ll no doubt be making them again! Sticky, sweet, rich and spicy – served with creamy polenta and green beans it doesn’t get much better than this.
